We Are Urban City Services

UCS Outreach

OUR MISSION?

First to get our unhoused neighbors sheltered or housed. Urban City is a homeless advocacy outreach organization made up of volunteers, donors, and supporters.

We currently operate 2 programs in the city of St. Louis.

Our 1st program is with our UCS Street Outreach Program.

We conduct weekly outreach patrols to reach the unhoused population of Dutchtown/Gravois Park/Benton Park, and Soulard/Downtown areas. We also serve the encampments along the flood walls and under overpasses in an effort to bring them to needed community services. We provide care items, food-snacks, drinks, clothing and resource materials. The team also mobilizes when weather reaches dangerous temperatures.

The Bounce Back Project

The Bounce Back Project is a volunteer-operated job search/career readiness program based in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis Mo aimed at preparing homeless shelter clients and other unhoused individuals for new careers in the twenty-first century.

The program gives clients access to free training across a variety of important skills needed to re-enter the job market including computer skills, resume building, job search, and more.

The BBP will include the dissemination of resources and materials such as webinars, training modules, podcasts, presentations, and other learning activities on innovative job search strategies. BBP will also focus on effective methods and avenues to employment and career pathways, industry-recognized certification, employer-informed training, and capacity building, job supports, and more.

It will also include small group learning and one-on-one support. The Bounce Back Project is aligned closely with and promote best practices associated with poverty reduction and increasing the self-sufficiency of homeless individuals.

Candidates are also connected with local organizations that work to reduce their barriers to employment.

Vision

To create a permanent and accessible pathway for the shelter clients in St. Louis to re-enter the job market.

The Klean Krewe

These are 5 homeless individuals that patrol the neighborhood picking up loose litter that blows around the streets. They do this twice a week for a couple of hrs each day. These individuals earn a stipend sponsored by Historic Trinity Lutheran Church and are enrolled into Bounce Back Project.

UCS ID and Birth Certificate Program

The lack of Mo. State ID, Birth Certificate, and Social Security Card are the largest barriers to employments as well as other vital services that can assist with ending one's homelessness.

Urban City Services offers free Mo ID as well as in-state or out of state Birth Certificates to those who are homeless or can't afford it. We assist with preparation of proper documents and cover the costs.

Cold Weather Warming Bus

UCS Cold Weather Warming Bus

In an effort to aid those who are in need of refuge from the brutal cold temperatures, Urban City Services has partnered with St. Louis Winter Outreach  to purchase and operate a school bus to operate as warm wait station as volunteers coordinate  with outreach groups on the ground and shuttle drivers while being in constant communications with open homeless shelters, tracking available bed counts in real time.

The Warming Bus is activated when overnight temperatures drop below 25 degrees. It will park at Chestnut and 13th St in downtown St. Louis from 5pm - 7pm.

Anyone seeking shelter from the cold are encouraged to meet us here to be transported to available shelter beds
